In this book, David Rixham plunges into a personal account of experiencing two cultures firsthand. After growing up and benefiting from a university education in England, he decides to move to Spain, putting down roots there and finally adopting Spanish nationality. He talks not only about the kinds of topics that might be of interest to those visiting either country, such as popular traditions, daily routines and socialising, but also about ones which dig a little deeper, providing us with an understanding of the national psyche. How, for instance, language, humour, national pride and stereotyping play a role in shaping behaviour. Throughout the book, descriptions of situations which illustrate the points being made help to see things through the eyes of someone with an in-depth knowledge of how things work in two different countries.
