A classic of French cinema from the director of “Grisbi”; a gangster/romance set in turn-of-the-century Paris and loosely based on a notorious real-life case.Visually it's a marvellously evocative film and captures the Parisian demimonde well in it's characterisations, storyline and locations; Signoret and Reggiani are convincing in their parts and the final scenes have lost none of their poignancy and power.A film that really should be in the collection of any true cinema buff.The standard UK DVD edition presents a very sharp digital transfer of this black and white film; the sound quality is good for it`s age; English subtitles are provided.There are no extras.English subtitles
