Bol Carmilla was published by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu in 1872, seventy-five years before Bram Stoker's Dracula. The character Carmilla is considered the prototype of female and lesbian vampires. Included in this edition is the short story "The Vampyre" by John Polidori. The first vampire story in English prose, "The Vampyre" set off a craze in vampire fiction which would eventually lead to works such as Varney the Vampire, Carmilla, and Dracula.
