Urban buildings are a core carbon emission source and primary human settlement carrier. Building systematic full-life-cycle carbon neutrality pathways spanning construction to demolition is critical for urban low-carbon transformation. Current research covers sustainable architectural heritage, energy-oriented urban planning, and distributed energy design, yet gaps remain in multi-scale assessment, cross-disciplinary integration, and differentiated indoor optimization. The following Special Issue "Carbon-Neutral Pathways for Urban Building Design" presents the latest advances, covering innovative research progress in areas such as the sustainable development of heritage buildings and neighborhood morphology design, the optimization of structures and integrated performance for distributed energy systems, the optimization of wind environment in passive buildings, and the relationship between human settlement environment and low-carbon consumption behavior. It aims to address technical obstacles and promote the green transformation of the urban construction industry.
