Burning Guard

Burning Guard begins with Henrique "Heni" Belmonte backed against the ropes, his legs failing and a referee closing in. Years earlier, one violent street fight in Rio put a criminal family at his door and forced him onto a ship bound for South Florida. He arrives with no safety net, no easy future, and one lesson already burned into him: power always goes somewhere.By day, Heni carries debris, repairs broken floors, and learns how to build a life from whatever work his hands can find. By night, he sharpens Brazilian jiu-jitsu with the hard boxing of Vic Sokolov and the wrestling-minded intelligence of Cal Hayes. When mixed-style fights begin offering real money, Heni sees more than a purse. He sees a way to protect his mother, secure his future, and build something that can outlast every room he has ever been forced to leave. The wins come hard and fast. A giant tests whether Heni can control power without letting humiliation control him. A wrestler drags him into deep water. Then Mack Reddick discovers the weakness Heni refuses to admit: pride can keep a man standing long after his judgment has stopped moving. One brutal loss threatens to take more than his record-it exposes grief, bad recovery, broken trust, and the dangerous difference between suffering and discipline.Luci Almeida has known Heni since before the gloves, the crowds, or Miami. She knows the thoughtful man hidden behind the hard hands, and she refuses to become a prize for his success or a shield for his shame. As Heni fights to rebuild what his anger damaged, every relationship around him asks the same question as the ring: when pressure closes in, will he force the moment-or make the right decision while choice still remains? One final fight waits against a younger, undefeated wrestler with the future on his side and fifteen minutes to take Heni apart. His hand is damaged. His ribs hurt. His knee is failing. The old instinct says to prove he can endure anything. The fighter he has fought his whole life to become knows endurance is only one part of strength. To survive the last test, Heni must trust his corner, move before the opening disappears, and remember that the most important moment may be the instant after he has enough power to finish.Step into the world of IGNITE MIAMI and continue through the other standalone novels: Iron Still Bends, Ground Truth, Crossing Redline, and Cut Line. Different fighters. Different eras. Different pressures. One gym built around the belief that strength means more when you know what it is for.
