Het creatieve hart van de folk&jazz-formatie The Breath bestaat uit de Ierse (Armagh) zangeres Rioghnach Connolly en de Britse (Manchester) gitarist Stuart McCallum. De vocaliste, ook bekend van o.a. Honeyfeet en Afro Celt Sound System, brengt vooral het landelijke, vurige en trotse folk-element, terwijl de van Cinematic Orchestra bekende McCallum meer voor de stedelijke en degelijke indie jazz-factor zorgt. In 2016 bracht The Breath het eerste album 'Carry Your Kind' uit. De opvolger 'Let The ards Fall' werd in kortere tijd opgenomen, is wat minder uitgewerkt, maar meer 'song-driven, to the point, organic and spontaneous, stripping away some of the layers and bombast of their debut-album'. Over gebleven is een 'bewitching collection of dreamy songs with a widescreen, multi-textured kaleidoscope of sound'.
