At the end of the 19th century, Anglican, Methodist and Roman Catholic missionaries (altarboys they were not), drafted Blackfoot dictionaries and grammars to aid their proselytizing. After 1896 the Canadian government stipulated that education had to be conducted in English. The stream of Blackfoot linguistics dried up.
