Behavior of Eucalyptus trees when attacked by Phoracantha semipunctata: DE

Although trees generally have a self-defense mechanism to protect themselves against most diseases and insects, several factors can weaken trees, such as lack of or excess water, climate change, poor soil, or injury. This is when trees are most fragile and susceptible to insect infestation. In Morocco, the drought period that lasted from 1980 to 1986, followed by another drought in the 1990s, only encouraged the establishment and proliferation of Phoracantha semipunctata. This study shows the phytosanitary status of eucalyptus trees introduced to Morocco and their adaptation in four pre-selected arboretums. It was concluded that certain species of eucalyptus, such as Eucalyptus falcata, showed a certain degree of adaptation and resistance to the new climatic conditions, specifically the drought and attacks by P. semipunctata, unlike other species of eucalyptus that proved to be more vulnerable, such as Eucalyptus gomphocephala.
