Becoming Simrat The White Dove

Born in Glasgow, Simrat is a British South Asian Sikh girl caught between two cultures. Raised in tradition, she learns early how to cook, clean and to conceal the ache of not belonging. But as adolescence dawns, Simrat's rebellion takes form-in the silence of an eating disorder that consumes her.Betrothed to a stranger and pulled into a marriage that takes away her autonomy, Simrat's spirit begins to break. With two young sons in tow and nothing but a black bin bag of clothes, she flees everything she's known, chasing a freedom she's only imagined. What follows is a raw, unflinching search for self. Through love and heartbreak, Simrat embarks on a deep search for truth. Along the way, she faces the pain of abandonment and rediscovers the quiet strength within her. With each challenge, Simrat must summon the strength to reclaim the woman she was always meant to be-the one she glimpsed long ago in the wings of a white dove.Soma Devi's THE WHITE DOVE is a powerful, personal story of healing and awakening.
