Badger Clark

A Western poet whose verses echo the rhythmic clip-clop of a cattle drive. From a tumultuous childhood in Deadwood and trials abroad to the open ranges of Arizona, his plain, soulful words capture the raw spirit of the frontier and continue to resonate at rodeos and gatherings. Badger Clark (1883–1957), South Dakota’s first poet laureate, is best known for his “A Cowboy’s Prayer,” erroneously attributed to Anonymous and a mainstay at rodeos across the United States.
