AUGUSTA: A STORY OF FAITH AND REDEMPTION

The Civil War took her husband. What came afterward would change everything she believed. Augusta "Gussie" Brown never imagined the life that awaited her beyond the quiet fields of Georgia. Widowed by war and left to face an uncertain future, she has little reason to believe that anyone, in heaven or on earth, is watching over her. Then circumstances carry Gussie far from home and into the brutal world of a Cuban sugar plantation. Trapped among strangers and surrounded by cruelty, survival becomes more than a matter of endurance. She witnesses suffering unlike anything she has ever known and finds herself drawn into the lives of people whose courage and sacrifice will forever change her own. Her desperate journey home will cross dangerous waters, impossible terrain, and a nation scarred by war. Along the way, unexpected friendships will form, sacrifices will be made, and Gussie will be forced to confront questions she has spent her life avoiding. Why do some people hold on to faith when everything around them gives them reason to let it go? And how much would one person sacrifice to save another? Set against the turmoil of the Civil War era, AUGUSTA is a story of survival, sacrifice, loss and redemption, and of one woman's extraordinary journey home.
