As You Were

Before everything changed, this is how we lived. Somewhere between the last VHS rewind and the first endless scroll, a whole way of living slipped quietly into the past. As You Were brings it back.In these personal essays, Matt Gordon guides you to rural America from the 1980s through the early 2000s: the sugar-buzz chaos of the school bus, the cracked-concrete thrills of summer, the road trips in a van that felt like a moving house, and the small-town scenes of a bygone age that still feels a bit like growing up and coming home.Gordon writes with warmth and a wink, but he does not flinch from all that memory carries with it: mix-ups, betrayals, strange religion, and the ache of time slipping away. As You Were offers something steadier than nostalgia-a familiar emotional current that pulls you toward your own stories, your own people, your own place. Through these pages, you'll hold yesterday without living there. You'll remember as you were.
