Application of the Pinch Method

Process energy optimization is the basis of efficient industrial production. A methodical approach to optimizing energy use in industrial processes was developed in the 1980s by Linnhoff and his colleagues. They published the first "Guide to Optimum Energy Use in Process Industries" in 1982 (republished in 1994), where the notion of process integration was introduced. Process integration has evolved into a paradigm of process design, generally aimed at the optimal use of resources.In this book, pinch analysis is preferred because of its simplicity compared to exegetical or mathematical approaches.
