Smoking is a global scourge, and it is essential that doctors in training play an active role in prevention efforts. It is in this context that we conducted this study, aimed at examining the practice of minimal counseling by doctors in training. A total of 301 medical residents were included in our d'étude. The smoking rate was 51.5%. Among the participants, 271 doctors indicated that they were familiar with minimal advice, and more than half felt that it was effective. Physicians who were current or former smokers were more likely to know about minimal advice than their non-smoking colleagues, with knowledge rates of 94% versus 84% (p = 0.004).Univariate analysis showed a significant association between the practice of minimal advice and the presence of a family history of a tobacco complication (p < 10-3), the presence of anti-tobacco posters and leaflets in the workplace (p =0.001) and the demand for other types of smoking and co-addiction (p=0.002).Despite its relative ease, minimal advice remains insufficiently applied by doctors.
