Bol Partner The imposing Angel of the North in Gateshead is doubtless Antony Gormley's most well known sculpture in public space. His art project One & Other, for which the artist invited 2,400 people to stand on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square for one hour each, brought him international recognition. With his conceptual sculptures and installations the British artist (*1950 in London) consistently addresses the relationship between the human body and space. The publication centers on Gormley's most recent work, Expansion Field, which is being presented for the first time in the large exhibition hall at the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern. It consists of sixty steel sculptures whose orthogonal shapes are derived from different postures of the artist's body. Expansion Field ties in with the other Field works by the sculptor and in terms of cultural and art history opens up references from prehistory to Minimal and Body Art.
