Anne Manx is hired by the former librarian of an economically depressed town. Madelaine Barnet claims she was fired because she refused to use the library's reputation for being haunted as a marketing tool to lure tourism into the town of Marsden. A new librarian is hired, and all of a sudden ghosts seem to be appearing all the time. Curiosity seekers are now pouring into the town to see the ghost. Anne takes the case but events take Anne to a completely unexpected tplace that has implications far larger than a haunted library.
