The broad objective of the work reported in this book is to reduce the semantic gap in Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) systems through learning. CBIR is the research field concerned with algorithms and techniques to retrieve images similar to a chosen query image from a large archive of images. Other query modalities such as sketch based querying, keyword or free-text based, etc. have been studied, but our work focuses on query by example modality.
