All Men Disappear

Mack Macintosh has spent a lifetime being somewhere else. Not absent, exactly. Present in the room, present at the desk, present in the marriage - but never quite there. When a diagnosis arrives that reframes everything, he does something no one expects, least of all himself: he leaves Melbourne for a cottage in Scotland, with a red door, a range cooker that requires constant encouragement, and a harbour at the end of the lane. What follows is a sequence of small, specific things. A mug on a breakwater post. A tortoiseshell cat with opinions. A fifteen-year-old who asks better questions than most adults. A town that receives him without ceremony and, in its own time, without reservation. All Men Disappear is a novel about discovery - the particular kind that only becomes possible once a man admits, quietly and without drama, that he has spent a lifetime being someone else. What he finds on the other side of that admission is himself. The journey to get there is the story.
