تدور أحداث القصة حول حطاب فقير كثير التذمر طوال الوقت، على عكس زوجته التي كانت شديدة التفاؤل، رغم ظروفها القاسية. يُقبل العيد وهما لا يملكان ثمن الملابس لطفلتيهما، فيزيـد الرجل في تشاؤمه و شجاره معها إلى أن تجــد حــلًا وهو إخراج آلة الحياكة التي ورثتها عن أمها من سقيفة الكوخ لتكتشف سرها الذي تتفاجأ به .The story revolves around a poor woodcutter who constantly grumbles, unlike his wife, who is extremely optimistic despite her harsh circumstances. Eid approaches and they cannot afford clothes for their two daughters. The man's pessimism increases and he quarrels with her until she finds a solution: removing the sewing machine she inherited from her mother from the shed's shed, where she discovers its secret, which surprises her .
