Afterlife

Afterlife is a luminous, deeply felt collection of thirteen stories that bears witness to love, grief, and survival across decades of gay life in America. From a boy who turns unspoken fears into stones to a drag queen who can see the future, from a theater haunted by a mother's unrecognized grief to a young man who watches over the living from the afterlife, these thirteen stories weave together the personal and the historical - the AIDS crisis, Wigstock, 9/11, marriage equality, and pandemic isolation - into something at once elegiac and radiant. Tender, funny, heartbreaking, and occasionally supernatural, Afterlife celebrates the chosen families, lost loves, and enduring bonds that define a generation, and reminds us that the dead are never truly gone - they live on in gardens, in recipes, in the echo of a violinist's string, and in the quiet persistence of those who loved them.
