After the Night: Reflections from Within Walls

AFTER THE NIGHT Reflections from Within the Walls Michael P. McDaniel First Morning PressSome nights do not end. They loosen their hold. Slowly. After the Night is a quiet work of Christian reflection written primarily for men and women in prison who are facing addiction, consequences, regret, shame, and grief. It comes from lived experience. It does not offer easy answers or pretend that faith erases the past. It asks what can happen when a person is willing to face the truth and turn toward God.Not every prison is made of concrete and steel. Some people have never been incarcerated, yet live behind walls built within the mind, body, or soul. They may feel lost, trapped by fear, old wounds, or a life they no longer know how to repair. Some know Jesus Christ. Some have walked away from Him. Others have never known Him as their personal Lord and Savior. These pages make room for each of them. Each chapter begins with reflective prose drawn from lived experience, followed by a brief Scripture passage and guided reflection questions. The structure invites readers to slow down, examine the patterns behind their decisions, and become honest about what has been broken and what still needs to change.Written with correctional and institutional settings in mind, the book respects the structure and authority of those environments. It may be read privately or used in voluntary discussion settings led by chaplains, pastors, volunteers, or peer mentors. This is not a story about escaping the night. It is about learning to stand within it long enough to tell the truth, listen for God, and take the next faithful step. For some readers, that step may be a return to Christ. For others, it may be the first step toward knowing Him.After the Night offers a place to begin-with honesty, Scripture, and an invitation to know Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior.
