This work presents a coherent approach to computer system design that encompasses many, if not most, of the design problems and solution options - starting from the structures of contemporary programming languages and operating systems, extending inwards to the processor's architecture and its implementation. It covers not only the basic tricks and techniques but also the relationships between software and hardware levels of system implementation and operation.
