A Testimony of Community

How does God call humanity to live in community? A person starts to see things differently after seven and a half years of living on the road, building personal relationships in all kinds of places, learning to love across barriers of difference, distrust, and fear.Quaker theology says that a group of people listening together can understand God's call better than any individual can. So--how are believers meant to love their neighbor? What is the right way to care for each other? Does the Holy Spirit offer guidance on war, governance, education, or friendship in a way that's relevant for ordinary people? To find these answers, people need to hear from one another. From North America to Africa, from Europe to the West Pacific, Emily Provance--a Quaker traveling minister--searched for communities' answers to these questions. She discovered a surprising number of points of agreement among thousands of people all over the world. This book starts with the story of that listening journey, then offers the collective wisdom uncovered, supplemented with stories and reflections and practical ways to apply the ideas in ordinary life.
