A Synoptic Overview of Pope Francis' Social Teaching

Since his election following Pope Benedict XVI's resignation from the Chair of Saint Peter, Pope Francis has moved the world with his demeanor and his teachings. In addressing the themes raised in his early writings regarding the challenges facing the Church, Pope Francis demonstrates a humanistic approach by denouncing liberal and financial capitalism, which he identifies as an anthropological crisis stemming from the tyranny of money and the rejection of ethics; by advocating for a collective struggle against the ecological crisis; and by addressing the modern challenges facing the human family... This reflection shows that Pope Francis' pastoral realism is grounded in the need to look beyond immediate concerns. Hence the need for a popularization that must show men and women of good will the universality of the message conveyed by the Roman Pontiff's social teaching, which is addressed to the citizens of the world (Catholic or not). Indeed, the Church's social doctrine advocates the common good, subsidiarity, and solidarity in truth. And the consequences of human attitudes toward possessions, nature, and the family affect, willingly or unwillingly, everyone without exception.
