A Study of Colonial Ceylon through Works Literature

This book was initiated with the hypothesis that the colonial Ceylon society could well be traced through works of Sri Lankan literature. Creative non-fiction was observed as the most effective genre of Sri Lankan writing over the history of a century and little more years to wade through the colonial Ceylonese society. Grass For My Feet by J. Vijayatunga, Those Long Afternoons by E.F.C. Ludowyk and The Moonemalle Inheritance by Rajiva Wijesinha were used as the material for the study. To probe into the matter if the Ceylonese community then that was comprised by the Sinhalese main race, Burghers the hybrid race, Tamils down South found mainly in the plantation sector and in towns, and Muslims had peaceful, harmonious co-existence in the society under the British colonial administration was the problem of this study. In a country where creative nonfiction and the leading writers who contributed to it have been sidelined, this study has bridged a vast research gap by sublimating the genre to interested parties.
