Ambrose Vidal has spent twenty years building a life from the pieces of the one he lost.In the summer of 1988, Ambrose is sixteen and convinced the world ahead of him will be bigger than the small Ontario town he calls home. He has his best friend Freddie, a family complicated enough to drive him crazy, and a battered El Camino offering his first real taste of freedom. Then everything begins to come apart.A sudden death fractures the Vidal family. Grief exposes old wounds. Addiction takes hold where no one expects it, and the people Ambrose loves are forced to discover how much a family can endure without breaking completely.Twenty years later, Ambrose has a family of his own and has made peace with much of what happened that year. But when violence reaches unexpectedly into the life he has built, the past-and a friendship he thought he'd lost forever-comes rushing back.A Juniper Through the Cracks is a novel about friendship, family, addiction, grief, and the stubborn ways people keep growing in places that should have broken them.
