A Ceiling of White

In Ocotillo Springs, the sky has literally fallen. What was once a vast desert horizon is now a suffocating, five-foot ceiling of dense, white felt that presses against the rooftops and forces the townspeople into a permanent, aching crouch.Mabel Bloom, a quiet observer who has lived in a "fortress of silence" since a traumatic school recital, watches as her community struggles to maintain a facade of normalcy. From the Mayor clinging to his dignity as his top hat is crushed, to the local baker hiding her loneliness behind empty flour tins, every resident of Ocotillo Springs is carrying a heavy secret.Guided by her grandmother's wisdom-that the sky is a mirror reflecting what people withhold-Mabel realizes that the atmosphere isn't a weather event; it's a physical manifestation of the town's suppressed truths.A Ceiling of White is a lyrical, imaginative journey about the courage it takes to be honest. It explores the profound idea that our collective burdens only become lighter when we have the strength to speak them out loud.About the Author Kevin Wheeler is a writer whose work often explores themes of resilience and human connection.
